This Privacy Policy explains how Alongside Labs LLC ("Alongside," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Alongside app and related services (the "Service"). Alongside Labs LLC is the controller of your information.

1. What Alongside is

Alongside is an AI-assisted metabolic coaching app. It helps people, including people using GLP-1 medications, preserve lean muscle during weight change by setting a personalized daily protein target and offering between-visit coaching. The Service is delivered as a web and mobile application. It is not a custom GPT or chatbot plugin, and it is not a medical device or a substitute for care from your healthcare provider (see our Terms & Conditions).

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to provide coaching.

Account information. Your email address, used to create and secure your account. Authentication is handled through our infrastructure provider (Supabase).

Profile and coaching inputs. Information you provide so we can personalize your plan, which may include:

Meal photos. If you log a meal by photo, the image is used to estimate the meal and its protein content. Meal photos are not stored: the image is sent for processing, the estimate is returned, and the photo is not retained afterward.

Coaching conversations and continuity context. The messages you exchange with the coach and a limited summary of context we keep so coaching stays consistent between sessions.

Limited technical data. Basic operational data generated by hosting and infrastructure (for example, request logs and error reports) used to keep the Service running and secure.

Cookies and similar technologies. Alongside uses only the cookies needed to sign you in and keep the Service secure. It does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. Sensitive information

Some of what you share is health-related, for example GLP-1 medication status, food allergies, and the body metrics behind the protein target. We treat this as sensitive personal information. We collect it only to provide the coaching you have asked for, and we do not use it to infer characteristics about you for any purpose other than delivering the Service. You provide this sensitive information by choice when you set up coaching, and Alongside collects and uses it only with your consent and only to deliver the Service you requested. Alongside does not sell sensitive information or use it for targeted advertising.

5. How AI is used to provide coaching

Alongside uses Anthropic's Claude models, accessed through Anthropic's API, to generate coaching responses and to estimate meals from photos. To do this, the relevant inputs (your coaching messages and meal photos) are sent to Anthropic for processing and a response is returned to you. Anthropic acts as our service provider for this processing.

Under the commercial terms that apply to Alongside's use of the Anthropic API, Anthropic does not use the inputs and outputs sent through the API to train its models.

6. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only to the service providers (sub-processors) that operate the Service on our behalf, under contracts that limit them to processing data for us:

No other providers receive your personal information.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights or safety of users or the public, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), in which case we will notify you as required.

Some Alongside users are patients of telehealth providers or other healthcare partners. Alongside may share aggregate, de-identified statistics with these healthcare partners. For example, Alongside may share how a group of their patients is progressing toward a daily protein target or another nutrition goal.

These statistics describe groups and never individuals. Alongside shares a statistic only when the underlying group includes at least twenty individuals, and Alongside removes details that could be used to recognize you. Selecting a healthcare partner inside Alongside does not share your personal information with that partner.

Alongside will not share information that identifies you personally with a healthcare partner without your explicit consent.

7. Where your information is stored and how we protect it

Your information is stored using Supabase in the US West (us-west-1) region. We protect it with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and restricted administrative access. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information using reasonable, industry-standard measures. If a breach affects your personal information, Alongside will notify you and any regulators within the time and in the way the law requires.

8. How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we will delete it within 30 days of your request, except where we are required to retain certain records by law. Residual copies may persist briefly in backups before they are purged on a rolling cycle.

California residents. Alongside does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, does not use personal information for targeted advertising, and does not disclose personal information to third parties for those third parties' own direct marketing purposes. California residents have the right to know what categories of personal information Alongside collects about them, the sources of that information, the business purposes for collecting it, and the categories of recipients. California residents also have the right to access and obtain a copy of personal information held about them, the right to correct inaccurate personal information, the right to delete personal information (subject to limited legal exceptions), the right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information to what is needed to provide the Service, and the right not to face retaliation for exercising any of these rights. To exercise any of these rights, email support@alongsidecoach.fit. Alongside will verify the request using account information on file and will respond within forty-five days, with one possible forty-five-day extension if more time is reasonably needed. Alongside does not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals. No third party is allowed to collect personal information about a California resident's activity across other websites or services through the Alongside app or website.

Virginia residents. Virginia residents have the right to confirm whether Alongside processes their personal data, to access and obtain a copy of that data, to correct inaccuracies, to delete the data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Alongside does not sell personal data, does not use it for targeted advertising, and does not conduct that kind of profiling. Requests can be sent to support@alongsidecoach.fit and will be answered within forty-five days. A Virginia resident whose request is denied may appeal by replying to the response email within a reasonable time, and Alongside will respond to the appeal within sixty days.

Colorado residents. Colorado residents have the right to confirm whether Alongside processes their personal data, to access that data, to correct inaccuracies, to delete the data, to obtain a portable copy, and to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Alongside does not sell personal data, does not use it for targeted advertising, and does not conduct that profiling. Requests can be sent to support@alongsidecoach.fit and will be answered within forty-five days, with one possible forty-five-day extension where reasonably necessary. Colorado residents may appeal a denial by replying to the response email. Alongside will respond to the appeal within forty-five days, and information about contacting the Colorado Attorney General will be provided if the appeal is denied.

Connecticut residents. Connecticut residents have the right to confirm whether Alongside processes their personal data, to access and obtain a copy of that data, to correct inaccuracies, to delete the data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Alongside does not sell personal data, does not use it for targeted advertising, and does not engage in that profiling. Requests can be sent to support@alongsidecoach.fit and will be answered within forty-five days. A Connecticut resident whose request is denied may appeal by replying to the response email, and Alongside will respond within sixty days.

Texas residents. Texas residents have the right to confirm whether Alongside processes their personal data, to access that data, to correct inaccuracies, to delete the data, to obtain a portable copy, and to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Alongside does not sell personal data, does not use it for targeted advertising, and does not engage in that profiling. Sensitive data, including health-related information, is collected only with the resident's consent. Requests can be sent to support@alongsidecoach.fit and will be answered within forty-five days. A Texas resident whose request is denied may appeal by replying to the response email, and Alongside will respond within sixty days.

Consumer health data. Some information Alongside collects may count as consumer health data under state laws such as those in Washington and Nevada. Alongside collects and shares this data only with your consent and only to provide the Service, does not sell it, and honors your requests to access or delete it.

10. Children

Alongside is a service for adults. The Service is not intended for, directed to, or available to anyone under eighteen years of age, and Alongside does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. Alongside also does not knowingly collect personal information from any child under thirteen years of age. A parent or guardian who believes a child has provided personal information to Alongside can contact support@alongsidecoach.fit, and Alongside will delete the information without undue delay.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
